The arrest stemmed from an incident on Monday, Aug. 7 that happened just after 9:33 a.m., when New Rochelle Police responded to the Five Islands Park at 81 Lefevres Ln. after receiving a report of a sexual assault.
According to the department, the victim, a young girl, was soon found and brought to a local hospital to be treated.
The victim told authorities that an unknown male had followed her down Main Street to the park before grabbing her from behind and assaulting her. The male then ran from the scene when an adult woman noticed what was happening and intervened, police said.
Soon after the incident, officers searched the area for the suspect and were able to find him around 2 p.m. near New Rochelle High School.
The suspect, identified as a 15-year-old boy, was arrested without incident and was also linked to a second assault that happened on Friday, Aug. 4 just after 5:30 p.m. on Soundview Street in New Rochelle after further investigation.
In this incident, the suspect also followed a young girl and attacked her from behind, bringing her to the ground, according to authorities. Two witnesses then saw the incident and called out, scaring the boy off.
In both incidents, the boy was unknown to the victims.
The boy is now charged with:
- Fourth-degree aggravated sexual abuse;
- Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation (For both incidents);
- Forcible touching (For both incidents).
The boy's name was not released by police because of his age.
